Do rabbits need a hiding spot?

like an igloo or a dark covered place.my rabbit has a two story cage,the second story covers a fifthof the cage.he goes under there sometimes but he prefers to sleep in the open part of the cage.i was thinking about removing it since it is kinda small,when i remove it should i replace it with an igloo or some kind of shelter or will it be fine without it?
